James R. Wharton, MD
Dr. Wharton earned his undergraduate degree from Duke University in 1990. He graduated at the top of his class from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 1994. His residency in dermatology was completed at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. After finishing his training, he entered into private practice in Northwest Arkansas where he practiced for 9 years prior to moving to Louisville. While in private practice Dr. Wharton finished specialized training in dermatopathology and was on the faculty at the University of Arkansas in the Department of Dermatology. He is board certified in both Dermatology and Dermatopathology and is currently on the faculty at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Dr. Wharton is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, Dermatology Foundation, American Society for Mohs Surgery, American Society of Dermatopathology, International Society of Dermatopathology and the American Society of Cosmetic Dermatology and Aesthetic Surgery. Dr. Wharton holds active medical licenses in Kentucky, Arkansas, Texas, Hawaii, Missouri, and Florida.
Holly JW Gunn, MD
Dr. Gunn graduated in biochemistry at the University of Maryland in 2003. She attended medical school in her hometown at the University of South Alabama, College of Medicine and was elected to the Alpha Omega Honor Society as a medical student in 2007. She then completed an internal medicine internship, research fellowship, and dermatology residency at Pennsylvania State University, Hershey Medical Center . During residency she received the Women’s Dermatologic Society Mentorship Award allowing her to train at Northwestern University with the expert in pediatric dermatologic surgery. She has also received certifications in numerous aesthetic modalities including lasers, dermal fillers, and neuromodulators. As a chief resident she led the resident cosmetic clinic prior to entering private practice in Lancaster, PA. She became board certified by the American Board of Dermatology in 2012 and obtained a Masters in Public Health that same year. She is published in several peer reviewed journals and book chapters on skin cancer prevention, skin diseases, and cosmeceuticals. She is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery.
Dr. Gunn moved to Louisville in 2014 to join her husband who is a plastic surgery fellow at the University of Louisville. Together they have four children. Outside of the clinic they enjoy hiking, biking and watching college football.
Dr. Gunn enjoys all aspects of dermatology and practices medical, surgical, pediatric and cosmetic dermatology at Louisville Dermatology Clinic and the Aesthetic Center of Louisville. Dr. Gunn believes in a team approach with her patients to establish the best treatments for their overall health. She is currently accepting new patients for the entire family.
Melissa Davis, PA-C
Melissa Davis earned her undergraduate degree from Miami University in 2003 with a double major in Zoology and Psychology. She then went on to complete her Physician Assistant degree from the University of Kentucky in 2007. Melissa became board certified by the American Academy of Physician Assistants in 2007. Melissa practiced family medicine for 5 years where she had a special interest in dermatology. She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and Kentucky Academy of Physician Assistants Melissa and her husband have lived in Louisville since they married in 2006, they have one son. Melissa is excited to be working with Dr. Wharton and looks forward to building relationships with the patients in this practice while helping them address their dermatologic needs.
Shannon England, APRN
Shannon England is a Family Nurse Practitioner that has been practicing as a Registered Nurse for over 12 years. Shannon has been a dedicated member of the healthcare community committed to the highest standards of quality care. She has specialized in pre and post operative care, cardiac nursing, wound care and women’s health.
Shannon obtained her Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from the Frontier Nursing University in an effort to provide a higher level of quality healthcare to all individuals. Shannon is a Certified Nurse Practitioner and active member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She is also an active member of Kentucky Coalition of Nurse Practitioners & Nurse Midwives and has recently been nominated into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society in Nursing.
Shannon is excited to be part of the professional healthcare team at Louisville Dermatology. She remains committed to providing optimal care to individuals of all ages seeking treatment for a variety of skin care needs.
Janelle Willoughby, Medical Aesthetician
Janelle Willoughby started in the beauty and wellness industry over 13 years ago out of sheer passion and excitement for skin care. Originally from Austin, Texas, she specialized in a natural approach to skin health as the regional director for Woodhouse Spas. Her studies took her to New York City where she went on to become a licensed medical aesthetician, studying at Christine Valmy, The United States' first and original school of aesthetics. While in New York she worked with the latest lasers, chemical peels and IPL systems in medical aesthetics, and brought her expertise as a makeup artist to the runways of the 2008 Fall Fashion Week.
Now in Louisville, Janelle hopes to bring her clients the latest and best practices in medical grade skin care. Janelle understands that every client struggles with unique and individual skin concerns. That is why she offers complimentary consultation where she will create a customized plan to achieve their skin care needs.
Janelle is certified in Photofacials, Laser Hair Removal, Thermage, Endermology, Affirm, Isolaze, Titan, Cool Touch, Laser Genesis and IPL treatments. Janelle also specializes in chemical peels, medical grade microdermabrasion treatments and advanced acne therapies. She holds aesthetic licences in New York, Texas and Kentucky.
